Hilarious Nights in Newcastle
Britain is blessed with some brilliant stand-up comedians and if you find yourself in Newcastle this year you could be lucky enough to see some of the best acts around. For a great night out of fun and laughter, why not book a seat for one of these hilarious shows.
Jimmy Carr
Jimmy’s new show Gagging Order will be a hilarious night out with one of Britain’s premier comedians. You can expect his usual mix of one-liners and stories, but you might need to leave your conscience and sense of morality at the door, as his humour is not always politically correct. Jimmy will be at the Sunderland Empire Theatre on 6 July and at the Newcastle City hall on 8 November.
Ed Byrne
Described as a master of observational comedy and social satire, Irishman Ed Byrne says he has been a ‘miserable old git’ since the age of 23. In his Roaring Forties show, 41-year-old Ed takes an hilarious look at middle age in this fast-paced presentation at the Newcastle City hall on 11 December.
Jason Manford
Jason is renowned for his side-splitting observations and his friendly delivery that has made him a firm favourite with audiences since he first took the stage. His First World Problems show is yet another piece of brilliant entertainment from the comedy wizard. You can see the show at The Newcastle City Hall on 25 or 26 October, but if you miss out, you have a second chance as he is also appearing at the Sunderland Empire Theatre on 8 and 9 November.
Bill Bailey
In Bill Bailey Qualmpeddler, Bill takes an irreverent, anxious look at the modern world as he re-appraises great art works, religion and the end of the world. This show is classic Bill Bailey but is only for the over 16s, unless accompanied by an adult. Bill will be appearing in two shows nightly from 3 – 5 June at the Theatre Royal.
Sarah Millican
Britain’s Queen of Comedy Sarah Millican will be presenting an hilarious look at domestic bliss in Home Bird, her third national tour. Expect to be rolling in your seat as she teaches you all about preparing for a dirty weekend or how to blend in at a swanky restaurant. And there’s plenty of opportunity to catch the show, as she is appearing at the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre twice nightly from 20 – 24 November.
Paul Merton
For a night of unique comedy that is based entirely on audience suggestions and participation, Paul Merton’s Impro Chums is not to be missed. One of Britain’s best-loved entertainers, Paul is known for his dry humour and improvisational skills. You will find him at the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre on 25 October.
John Scott
For a great night of comedy that will help a worthy cause, you should join Scotsman John Scott in his Comedy Night with John Scott at the Stand Comedy Club on 20 May. All proceeds from ticket sales for this rib-tickling night of comedy will go to Diabetes UK.
Ken Dodd
For an evening of pure joy and laughter, take trip to the Sunderland Empire Theatre on 18 May to see comedy legend Ken Dodd. Ken’s Happiness Show is just that – a great variety show for the whole family with jokes and songs from this master entertainer. Just sit back. Laugh and enjoy.
These are just a few of the great comedians who will be performing in the North East this year. Make sure that you don’t miss out by booking early or the first laugh could be on you!
